The Unė Babickaitė Theater at the Kupiškis Cultural Center presents the satirical musical (political) comedy “Velniava,” based on Viktoras Miliūnas’s play “Zigmas Blynas in Hell.”
At the center of the story is Zigmas Blynas, a bureaucrat who finds himself in hell and is appointed head of the reception desk. This is where a grotesque story begins, one that uses humor and irony to expose human vices—bureaucracy, corruption, vanity, incompetence, and selfishness.
Although Viktoras Miliūnas’s play was written as far back as 1955, the themes it explores remain relevant today. The play’s humor, satire, and grotesque elements are complemented by songs from the band “Antis.”
“Velniava” invites you not only to laugh at familiar situations and characters, but also to take a look at human weaknesses, which, it seems, change much more slowly than the times.
